Allied health professionals is an umbrella term used to describe health professionals that are not part of the medical (e.g., general practitioners), dental, or nursing professions.

Psychologists (including registered and clinical psychologists), social workers and occupational therapists are allied health professionals with specialist skills in assessing and treating mental health conditions.

All allied health professionals meet high education, training, ethical, and professional standards, and must undertake ongoing training and skill development as part of their professional registrations.

Telehealth services provide a high standard of care. Research consistently shows that for most mental health conditions online psychological counselling is as effective as in-person. Similarly, people’s overall satisfaction with telehealth is comparable to face-to-face appointments.

I relate. Heath’s vision is for all Australians to have equal access to mental health care.

I relate. Health won’t let cost be the reason you don’t receive psychological counselling. If, for any reason, our fees mean you can’t engage with psychological counselling we will bulk bill your service – no questions asked, or evidence of financial hardship required. You just need to let us know – either at the time of booking your appointment or talk with your clinician.

See our Fees page for more information about fees and rebates.

All I relate. Health services are delivered via telehealth. Telehealth, put simply, is health care that you can access online or over the phone.

Telehealth offers access to health care you need, where and wherever you need it, using either a smartphone, tablet, or computer.

There are many advantages to telehealth.

Telehealth eliminates the time, cost, and inconvenience of travelling to and from appointments. With telehealth you’re able to schedule your appointments around your life.

No longer are you restricted to the mental health services that exist in your local area. With telehealth you’re able to access a professional service, from anywhere, at a time that works for you.

In December 2021, telehealth became a permanent feature of primary health care in Australia.
